Fundraising Update – March 2020

With ever-increasing numbers of survivors coming to us for counselling, we’re always looking for ways to expand.  We’re so grateful to the people and organisations who are supporting this through grants and donations – here are three recent highlights:

A three year grant from Brook Trust will enable us to remain open later on one additional evening per week.  We’ll be able to offer a couple more counselling and assessment appointments that are more accessible and discreet for survivors who work during the day.

The Ministry of Justice already provide some core funding for our counselling services.  In January we were offered additional funds for the next two years, to help tackle our growing waiting list, so that survivors don’t have to wait so long before beginning counselling.  This is really welcome.  We’ve decided to boost the support we offer to some of the more vulnerable survivors we support, who are bringing more complex and long-term needs often following trauma in childhood.  We’ll be recruiting more counsellors with extensive specialist experience to support this group promptly and effectively.

We love donations from individuals.  When someone chooses to give their own money, or organise a facebook birthday fundraiser, or a sponsored event, they are doing it because they believe in the importance of our work.  A fundraising event can also help more survivors hear about the support available.

We’ve had a couple of cracking fundraising events held by supporters this month – thanks so much!

The University of Chester Netball team held a ‘Take me out’ event, raising £188 while having a brilliant evening!

They said “We are raising money for CSASS, a really important local charity in Chester which helps people who have experienced sexual abuse. This charity is very close to our hearts as they have supported a member of ours.”

Staff over at Cornwall House raised over £100 for us by holding a tea and cake event at work.
