Meet the Volunteers

Sarah McManus – CSASS Supportline Volunteer

First Name (optional): Sarah McManus

Age: 31

Role: CSASS Supportline Advisor

Start date? (if you can remember!): December 2019

Favourite type of cake: Chocolate Fudge

What made you want to volunteer for CSASS?

Someone close to me is a survivor who received very little support in the aftermath, that made me want to support others who have been through similar experiences.

In the future, I would like to become an ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) and this is a great experience first.

What has been your best experience?

Participating in Reclaim the Night!

Please share something you have learned:

Listening is one of the most significant things we can do for other people.

What do you do outside of volunteering?

I’m an ESL Teacher, MSc Psychology student, writer, and I’m owned by two beautiful cats.

How has volunteering for CSASS impacted your life?

It has made me feel less helpless in relation to such a huge issue.

Top self-care tip:

Take time to breathe! Also, face masks.

Is there anything else you would like to say about volunteering at CSASS?

I am grateful for the opportunity to work here, and to work with such great people who share my way of thinking.
