A different way to donate

When I was pregnant with my son in 2018, I thought about the number of times I had gone to buy a gift for new parents and had no idea what to get them! What do they need? What do they already have? So I decided to set up an Amazon Wishlist that could be sent to friends and family who might be having the same dilemma. That way everyone would know what we still needed!

The idea proved so popular that nearly all my friends have done the same since, and not just for new babies, but for their kids’ birthdays, their own birthdays, wedding gifts and all sorts.

When I joined CSASS in December, our Outreach Manager, Kaety, mentioned that she’d seen some charities doing a similar thing, but to get donations instead. Namely, Cats Protection League have one where you can buy pet food and toys for the cats, and a couple of homeless organisations in the US use it to get clothes and food.

We didn’t have a need for things to be donated to the people we help, except for maybe art supplies, but we had a chat and realised that we will always need things for the office. These things cost money, and that money could be more directly spent on helping survivors of sexual abuse.

So, in January 2019, I set up the CSASS Wishlist on Amazon, and since then we have received some wonderful donations from volunteers, supporters, and survivors…

This will provide ‘balance and support’ for all the women in our centre…

Our first donation was some delicious Nescafe Azera coffee and some paper for the office…

One of our volunteers sent us this very colourful collection of Pukka teas…

The mum of one of our counsellors gave us these clocks to use in some of the private counselling rooms…

Most recently we have received this wonderful gift from a survivor so now I can finally wipe ‘Pens!’ off the shopping list…

Each of these donations has helped our office run more efficiently, so that we can focus more on the people that we need to help.

If you would like to donate something to the CSASS office, take a look at our Amazon Wishlist here…
