Storyhouse Women: Everyday Rape Cultures and Religion

On Sunday 28th April, CSASS Centre Manager, Alison Breadon, joined theologians Dr Katie Edwards and Dr Dawn Llewellyn on The Garret stage at Storyhouse as part of the Storyhouse Women weekend.

The topic up for discussion was ‘Everyday Rape Cultures and Religion: A Complex Relationship?’ – How do religious teachings, texts, traditions and beliefs shape our understanding of gender relations, and our responses to gender violence and rape cultures?

Alison was invited as a voice for survivors in Chester and the surrounding areas, and was privileged to be able to use first-hand stories from supporters or people that have benefited from CSASS counselling services.

These people allowed Alison to share real-life examples of how their religion or faith affected their recovery process and we are incredibly grateful to them for letting us tell their story.
